Description
Go past the visitor centre on your left and up the hill. Free parking in a large area on your right marked as Caban Coch parking on maps.
Crossing the road and through the gate the walk is on tarmac with a small uphill gradient when going to the right. There is one single bench on your way right and a second when you reach the Garreg Ddu dam. Crossing the road at the dam the path then becomes small gravel. There is a photo above there which also shows the Foel Valve tower. You can continue on this path for quite a distance should you so wish. It is a further 2 miles one way before meeting the road again!
Opposite the car parking area is a view point over the dam and if the reservoir is full it is spectacular to watch the water flowing over it. Looking downstream to the visitor centre you will see a building that holds a working water turbine for electricity.
Walking to your left having gone through the gate will take you down to the visitor centre on a very steep tarmac path.
Picnic benches are also located opposite in a grassy area with views.
Suitable for
Non powered wheelchair – self propelled – All terrain wheelchair. Power wheelchair / mobility scooters /
Additional Information
If you go down to the Visitor centre (£3 parking charge) there are toilets and a cafe.
It is worth driving around the reservoirs and stopping a view points for a great day out.
