Foot exit from Morrisons car park to footpath https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qhco5QN1dES6yg9Z9
Description
When you drive into Morrisons car park take the first left lane and park at the end. (There are Blue Badge spaces on the 6th lane on your left.) The footpath exit is on your far left (looking at the supermarket Café) into Bridge Meadow Park (sometimes hidden behind a home delivery van). Do NOT park on the side road which has cameras – no parking is allowed as private road access to shop service areas.
Cross the road from Morrisions to the children’s play area and turn right for the Haverfordwest Cleddau Reaches wheelchair walk. The walk is on tarmac with a short steep incline about 100m past the children’s play area with the last big incline downhill just after this. When you see the walk map display board before the incline, you can go left avoiding the steps to gain access to the river (as in the first photograph). There are single benches and one picnic bench that has wheelchair access to the table.
Continuing along the path you go past the football ground on your right before going through a bridle gate into a field area. Following the tarmac path there are 2 places you could even fish direct from your wheelchair (licence required?). Cross over the bridge, go through the second bridle gate onto a crushed stone path. Be aware that at present as you come off the bridge the ground is angled to the bridge with a 5 cm drop on one side. Keep hard against the left side of the gate for a safe, level drop to stop you tipping. You then return down the far side of the Cleddau where there is a leat (a hand dug watercourse lined with stone). This used to supply water to a mill built in 1764. This path turns again to tarmac and if you take the short left section you reach the river and a ideal picnic spot with bench. Continue past the turning until you reach the main road before either returning the same way you came, or turning left for a short walk back to Morrisions (0.4 mile). Note: the pavement is very narrow on a corner within 50 m and a wheelchair may not get around it without going in the road.
This is a lovely, sheltered walk alongside the river in peace and quiet with picnic spots. Unfortunately there is rubbish left by people (we try and pick it up when we’re there.) Bins are at each end of the walk including a separate dog poo bin – no need for dumped rubbish!
Do not pick the pretty pink flowers which are invasive Himalayan Balsam – when ripe, the seeds pop when you touch the plant. (We only found this out after taking the photograph below.) Check your dog as the seeds bury through even long coats to irritate the skin.
