Description
The car park has 2 Blue Badge spaces only and it can be very busy.
The walk goes down hill on a tarmac path to the beginning of the boardwalk which is on your right at the bottom. It is a lovely boardwalk next to the river with benches along it and a picnic table at the end. The circular walk returns at the end of the boardwalk on a tarmac path through the trees and enters the top of the car park at the end. Very tempting to go back alongside the river but the tree walk is spectacular as well. Maybe do the circular walk and then go back along the boardwalk again.
At the end of the boardwalk it is possible to continue up a steep short rough slope if you have a pushchair or you can manage to get up it out of your wheelchair. Unfortunately there is only a very low handrail to assist. The walk here continues along next to the river and it is well worth it. It is not the easiest of ways up the slope however. Since doing this section we have found there is a second entrance to the forest with parking just up the road from the main car park. Google link We have not tried this way but to the left after going through the gate you will go back down to the river.
Suitable for
Non powered wheelchair – self propelled – All terrain wheelchair. Power wheelchair / mobility scooters / Pushchairs and buggies
Additional Information
Going past the official car park for Hafren Forest you will find the higher entrance that we have not used with parking.
The picture with the caption “A bridge too far” below was on the extended part of the walk we did past the boardwalk end.
