Nearest parking to the A487 is the West car parking area. This area has normal parking spaces. The East parking is very wide when you park parallel to the road. This means you can leave your door open wide if you need your wheelchair next to the car seat. See the map below.
Description
The airfield was a WW2 RAF base. Fortress, Halifax and Liberator bombers all flew from the airfield. It closed in the 1960 and the National Park Service purchased it in the 1990’s
From the West entrance keeping to the left of the hedge follow the walk around the perimeter, which then circles back just past the Gorsedd Circle. This is from when the 2002 National Eisteddfod of Wales was hosted here. There is one bench on the way and 2 further ones after you turn right past the circle. On your way back you are directed across the airfield which can be windy! Views here out across St Brides Bay.
Coming from the East gate you can turn left just before the Gorsedd Circle or continue on towards the other gate.
Our preferred walk is between the 2 gates and there is plenty of blackberry picking!
For those who feel adventurous there are a few short cuts across the grass from the concrete path. Otherwise this is a great level wheelchair walk.
Suitable for
Non powered wheelchair – self propelled – All terrain wheelchair. Power wheelchair / mobility scooters /
